Authorities of the Nigeria Army are preparing for a lockdown following the outbreak and continued spread of Coronavirus in the country. In a classified document from the office of Chief of Army Staff, Yusuf Buratai, addressed to Army Headquarters and seen by SaharaReporters on Tuesday, personnel were advised to be on the alert as they could be deployed to various parts of the country in the coming days to help in the fight against Coronavirus in Nigeria. The document further said that the army may likely get involved in an operation codenamed SECOND ELEVEN to help stop the spread of the virus. The document signed by Lt Gen L.O. Sports ministry shuts down Lagos National Stadium

The National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos was on Monday shut down following the coronavirus outbreak. Bode Durotoye, the Liaison Officer of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, told the News Agency of Nigeria that the directive was from Sunday Dare, the Minister of Youth and Sports Development. Durotoye said the facility would be re-opened to the public when the situation improves. “I got the directive from the minister this morning (Monday) that we should shut down the National Stadium in Lagos temporarily in line with the Federal Government’s directive that all social gatherings should be suspended for now,” he said. NAN reports that the Lagos State Government had directed that not more than 50 people should gather at any public place for now. The liaison officer said the steps were part of governments’ initiatives to curtail the spread of the virus in the country. Lagos coronavirus cases may rise to 39,000 – Commissioner

The Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, has said the state may witness up to 39,000 cases of coronavirus. Abayomi at a briefing on Friday urged people to adhere to the social distancing advice of the state government to check the spread of the disease. He said, “Our mathematical modelling shows that the worst-case scenario is that we may see up to 39,000 cases in Lagos, but if everyone practises good social distancing, the figure will be limited to 13,000. “If we add social distancing to active contact tracing, then we will be able to bend the curve further.
